If you every find yourself in South Lake Tahoe, this hike is a must! The trailhead to Eagle falls is located just off Hwy-89 in Emerald Bay California. This hike is fairly short and easy but is full of spectacular views of the falls and Emerald Bay. In 1969 this area was designated as Natural National Landmark because of its incredible panoramic view of the mountains and glacier carved granite. It is very crowded in the summertime by tourist t bringing in many new visitors to Tahoe.
The State-line trail starts in Crystal Bay Nevada and is located only about seven minutes from Sierra Nevada College. The hike to the lookout is relatively easy and will take you across the Nevada and California State Border. This hike is often overlooked by many travelers but the view from this lookout is unbeatable. This trail is made moderately trafficked loop that is about 1.5 miles long. It is made easily accessible to all who visit and offers many scenic views of the lake. The trail is ranked as moderate and is mostly used for hiking. Depending on the ability of the person hiking the trail it could take up to 30minutes to reach the top. In edition there is a pavement walk-way from beginning to end.
Donner Summit is one of most spectacular spots to see around Donner Lake. Built by Chinese workers in 1869, the first transcontinental railroad passed through Donner. Donner Summit is also home to California's first destination ski resort, Sugar bowl. This hike is definitely recommended just because of all its history and beauty. Walking down the old tunnels you're surrounded by tons of different graffiti art none of which getting in the way of the history of the tunnels. It is a perfect venue for photography because of the different lighting throughout the tunnel and the frequent spots along the tunnel that give great shots of the valley and lake.
Carly and I took a trip to these tunnels to explore and also capture some different shots of the graffiti on the wall. We thought it would be fun to try Steel Wool Photography. Steel Wool Photography has been around for many years and is an easy, fun way of capturing amazing photos. When creating these photos it does involve fire so please pick a safe location.
The supplies needed for Steel Photography is steel wool, a cooking whisk, a string, a lighter, and a camera with the option to change shutter speed settings. The best places todo this type of photography is where there is sand, rock, pavement, or even water. Below I have attached a video that will take you through the all the steps!
Enjoy and be safe!
Every year between January 21st and February 20th they hold their annual Chinese New Year Celebration. These festivals have been going on for thousands of years and remains one the most important social and economic holiday in China. It was originally connected to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar being a time to honor their ancestors.
The famous City of San Fransisco is located about three and a half hours away from Lake Tahoe. Growing restless here at the Lake a group of us decide on a spontaneous trip to the City. To our surprise China town was hosting their annual Chinese New year Parade, welcoming in 2016 as the year of the monkey. Parking the car in China town, we began to explore. After walking up and down the streets of China town enjoying the many festivities, we make our way back to the car. We soon come to the realization we will be unable to leave because we had barricaded our car in the middle of the parade route.
Considering our circumstances, we make the decision to go find some food. Checking our phones for a close place to eat, we fall upon a small American Diner called Lori's. After some wonderful dinner and waiting for the streets to clear from the parade, the Crew manages to free their car and return to SNC.
