Donner Summit is one of most spectacular spots to see around Donner Lake. Built by Chinese workers in 1869, the first transcontinental railroad passed through Donner. Donner Summit is also home to California's first destination ski resort, Sugar bowl. This hike is definitely recommended just because of all its history and beauty. Walking down the old tunnels you're surrounded by tons of different graffiti art none of which getting in the way of the history of the tunnels. It is a perfect venue for photography because of the different lighting throughout the tunnel and the frequent spots along the tunnel that give great shots of the valley and lake.
Carly and I took a trip to these tunnels to explore and also capture some different shots of the graffiti on the wall. We thought it would be fun to try Steel Wool Photography. Steel Wool Photography has been around for many years and is an easy, fun way of capturing amazing photos. When creating these photos it does involve fire so please pick a safe location.
The supplies needed for Steel Photography is steel wool, a cooking whisk, a string, a lighter, and a camera with the option to change shutter speed settings. The best places todo this type of photography is where there is sand, rock, pavement, or even water. Below I have attached a video that will take you through the all the steps!
